THE NATURE
Corfu has a very beautiful and natural environment divided in seashore, lowland and mountain. Because of the heavy rainfalls during winter combined with the relatively mild summer the island has a verdant landscape in which Olive trees are dominant. Its olive groves include 3 to 6 million olive trees, some of which are more than 400 years old!
Several areas of the island are declared preserved like for instance Lake Korission with a cedar forest. The highest mountain of Corfu, is mount Pantokrator, located in the northern part of the island, to be reached via beautiful routes offering breathtaking views leading through Venetian villages which are relatively unaffected by tourism. The microclimate of Corfu favors the growth of wild flowers which bloom during all four seasons of the year. Amongst these wild flowers are 36 species of orchid. In April and May many areas are covered with a carpet of flowers, especially in the spring, the beauty of the Corfu countryside is astonishing.
